In reply to lori faulk. I agree that it would be unfair if you had to pay taxes on something you did not use. I am not a tax planner, but it seems to me that if you don't use their certificate, then you're not in receipt of a gift, especially if you could not use it because the cruise was full.

if u win a free cruise and dont use it do you have to pay taxes? i won a free cruise in a drawing and they said it was worht 1317.00. i called to schedule it and the cruise is full. and is non transferrable. so i hope i dont have to pay taxes on that amount? that would be very unfair
